Sales pending for The BOB and the concert hall in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Two of downtown Grand Rapids’ biggest nightlife hot spots could be about to change hands.

Ray Kisor, the listing agent for The BOB and the adjacent concert hall 20 Monroe Live, told News 8 that sales are on hold for both.

He said there were two separate buyers and the two deals are expected to close early next year. He did not identify the buyers or their plans for the buildings.

The Gilmore collection put the two buildings up for sale in November 2020, listing The BOB for $ 15.5 million and 20 Monroe Live for $ 16.5 million.

The BOB opened in 1997 in a four-story building more than a century old at 20 Monroe Ave. NW which had been vacant for decades. It has three restaurants, a brasserie, a nightclub and a comedy club.

20 Monroe Live, now GLC Live at 20 Monroe, is a concert hall built in 2017 that can accommodate up to 2,600 people. It only recently reopened for shows after it was closed by COVID-19.

Local visitors and convention bureau chief Experience Grand Rapids hopes the new owners won’t change much.

“Our visitors love it,” said Doug Small, President and CEO of Experience Grand Rapids. “It’s not only in a great location, but there is just a variety of activities going on there. Between 20 Monroe Live and the restaurants and bars, a short walk from the convention center, it’s great.

“Of course I wish I could – it’s not my money to throw away – but if we could keep it as it is now, or similar to what it is now, I think it will be a success. . “
