New Franklin concert hall causes heavy traffic jams

FRANKLIN, Tennessee (WKRN) – The FirstBank Amphitheater held its first concert on Tuesday in Franklin with country stars Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line, among others.

But the main event was happening at the new site, as traffic was blocked for at least three kilometers.

“I was waiting for LifeFlight or something to come because I thought it was a major problem,” neighbor Scott Morris said.

Morris lives near the amphitheater and got stuck in traffic on his way home. He said his concern grew when he saw the behavior of spectators as they waited in traffic.

“You have people walking through people’s neighborhoods. You have people, we actually had reports that people had to use the restroom and I understand that, and they would come out and go to use the restroom in people’s yards. It’s their private property, ”Morris said.

Morris doesn’t think the infrastructure at Thompson’s Station can handle the 7,500-seat venue.

“As you can imagine, a large project like this comes under scrutiny on many levels, said amphitheater owner Rick McEachern.

McEachern said traffic studies had been conducted as part of the city and county approvals.

“It was a little longer, or maybe a lot longer, than any of us expected,” McEachern said.

But McEachern said his staff are working quickly to resolve issues so fans and neighbors can move seamlessly.

“Stop sequencing lights and make sure traffic can flow more freely. Making sure the signage is in the right place, so people know where to turn and making sure we have parking staff in the right places. And it all requires fine tuning and fine tuning, ”Morris said.

On Thursday, the amphitheater hosted Greta Van Fleet and traffic was noticeably quieter.

Thompson Station Mayor Corey Napier released a statement saying the site generates highly desirable sales tax revenue for the community. And like many other large-scale events, there will be delays.

Napier said officials were working together to address early congestion on concert nights.
