Michigan concert hall halts show after floor loops

Alert security crews halted a show when the ground began to shake as cheering spectators jumped.

A concert featuring Las Vegas hip-hop group Baby Keem was cut short on Wednesday when the ground began to shake.

FOX 2 News reports that the show was shut down after about an hour when security teams stationed in the basement of legendary Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit’s Bricktown neighborhood noticed the floor beginning to warp.

This video, which has since gone viral, shows the ground moving dramatically as the crowd began bouncing to the beat.

Concerned about the safety of the patrons, the security team immediately shut down the show, which didn’t go well as you can imagine. Cooler heads prevailed and the venue was safely evacuated before anything serious happened.

Saint Andrew’s Hall was built in 1907 by the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society of Detroit as a meeting hall for their benevolent efforts and is currently owned by LiveNation.

In addition to the concert space on the ground floor which is reserved for standing room, the hall also has an additional event space called The Shelter in the basement, which was unoccupied at the time of Wednesday’s incident. . It also hosts a third-floor event space called The Society Room.

From the 1970s, the Hall began to book concerts in order to earn extra money for the Society. In 1980, it became Detroit’s premier underground venue for alternative, house and hip hop bands.

It is perhaps best known for being home to the rap battles that propelled Eminem to fame in the early 90s.

Seating around 1,000 spectators, the small venue became the place where many of the now-huge musical artists got their first taste of Detroit’s music scene, hosting the first big shows not only from Eminem, but also from Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers and White Bands among others.
