The Bowery Presents, owner of the Sinclair, are about to open the new venue in Allston-Brighton.
Although the past year saw the heartbreaking closure of a number of concert halls in Boston, there could be a silver lining in the end of the pandemic, as a new concert hall braces for to open. The same group of owners behind the beloved concert venue, the Sinclair, today announced the official name of its planned 3,500-person venue in Brighton: Roadrunner.
Bill to make Modern Lovers’ iconic song the official state song might have blocked (for now!), but the Bowery Presents will revive the debate by giving its name to its new place. Roadrunner will be adjacent to The TRACK at New Balance and is currently under construction at Boston Landing in Brighton. When completed, Roadrunner will be the largest general-admission indoor concert venue in Boston.
“For us, the song ‘Roadrunner’ belongs so authentically to Massachusetts and this new place. There’s a reason it almost became the state’s official song, ”Josh Bhatti, vice president and Boston bureau chief of The Bowery Presents, said in a statement.
The new 50,000 square foot venue is located at 89 Guest Street and will be open for concerts in Spring 2022. The opening lineup will be announced at a later date on @roadrunnerboston on Instagram and Facebook, @roadrunnerbos on Twitter, and to Roadrunner official website, if you want to be the first to find out who will be performing the opening show there.
While nothing can replace the old pillars that shut down during the pandemic, the Bowery Presents are hopeful their latest venture can be a welcome addition to Boston’s music scene.
“From clear sightlines to cutting edge sound, to easy access to bars and restrooms,” said Bhatti, “we are confident Roadrunner will join The Sinclair as a beloved concert venue in Greater Boston. . ” And hey, picking a name early doesn’t hurt.
