All smiles as Balloonagh Church turns out to be an excellent concert venue

Saturday night marked the start of a new era for Balloonagh Church in Tralee as the building hosted musical acts Rónán Ó Snodaigh, Myles O’Reilly and the Landless vocal quartet for what was the first concert to take place in the now disused church.

The former Balloonagh Convent Church was operated by the Sisters of Mercy from 1858 to 2015 and was recently purchased by Baile Mhuire Daycare which opened it up to events like these.

The evening was hosted by Keith Phelan and his team at ‘nonfaction’ and addressing The Kerryman after the show he said the whole evening had been a great success.

“The space was beautiful and the acoustics and everything that was going on at night was just great and it looked amazing. Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves and very happy with how the night had gone, ”he said.

With a number of COVID restrictions on live shows having been announced returning last Friday night, the day before the concert, Keith said their show in the church might well have been the last show anyone could go to for the new few. month.

“It was almost a full crowd, but I guess we had to watch out for COVID as well, so we reduced the numbers as well. It was actually noted overnight that due to the restrictions the night before Friday, this could be the last live event people could attend for the foreseeable future, ”he continued. .
